DIFFERENCES BETWEEN VACCINATION AND IVF
The need for assisted reproductive techniques has increased in recent years , as women delay the age of marriage and becoming a mother . When we think of assisted reproductive techniques, we think of vaccination and in vitro fertilization.
Vaccination is the preferred method, especially in case of male infertility, and is assumed as a stage of in vitro fertilization. In the infertility treatment processes of couples, the factors that cause infertility are considered first. Various factors such as deformations in testicular functions that can occur in men and anomalies that can be seen in sperm ducts can cause infertility. WHAT IS VACCINATION? TO WHOM IS IT APPLIED? Vaccination is the process of introducing sperm into the uterus. In vaccination, the male gives sperm by masturbation and these sperm are passed through some processes and quality ones are selected. Selected good quality sperm are delivered to the uterine cavity, which is the closest distance to the tubes where fertilization will take place, with the help of a thin catheter. Vaccination is not a painful procedure. It is performed in the normal gynecological examination position. Since the catheter used in the vaccination is very thin, the patient does not feel any pain. The given sperm meet the cracked egg in the tubes. If the sperm can fertilize the egg in a healthy way, an embryo is formed. Then this embryo goes to the uterus and attaches to the uterus (implantation) and pregnancy occurs. Vaccination therapy is applied in the following cases
- Inability to conceive despite 1 year of unprotected and regular intercourse
- Those with unexplained infertility
- Those with ejaculation problems
- It can be applied to those with decreased sperm count and motility.
In vitro fertilization is the process of fertilizing the eggs taken from the woman with the sperm taken from the man in the laboratory environment. While the aim in natural cycles or vaccination is the development of 1-2 eggs, the aim in IVF treatment is to develop a large number of eggs with drugs.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VACCINATION AND IVF APPLICATION Vaccination is not IVF. Both are assisted reproductive techniques used in the treatment of infertility and there are some differences between them. One of the most important differences between the vaccination method and IVF treatment is the number of eggs developed. Both in vaccination and in vitro fertilization treatment are started with menstruation.
Egg enhancing drugs are used in both. However, the dose of drugs used in vaccination treatment is much lower than in vitro fertilization treatment. Because while the aim in vaccination is to develop 1-2 eggs, the aim in IVF treatment is to develop 8-10 eggs. This is the most important difference between vaccination and IVF.
There is also a difference between the vaccination method and the in vitro fertilization method. The selected sperms themselves go and fertilize the egg. Eggs are not taken out. Fertilization takes place on its own in the woman’s tubes. However, in IVF treatment, mature eggs are collected and taken out. These collected eggs are fertilized with sperm in the laboratory environment. In other words, the fertilization process does not happen by itself, it is done by the embryologist with the microinjection (ICSI) method.
Another difference between vaccination and in vitro fertilization is; The egg fertilized in the tubes by the sperm in the vaccination goes to the uterus 3-5 days later and attaches to the uterus. In the in vitro fertilization method, the embryo formed by the microinjection method is 3-5. It is transferred to the uterus.
